Wine Spectator

Kristen Bieler

Shows real depth and style, with flattering notes of toasty oak draping over a core of yellow apple and star fruit, all grounded by chalky mineral elements and finely beaded acidity. Firmly structured and well-built, this will go the distance in the cellar. Concentrated and long. Drink now through 2038. 5 cases imported.

Decanter

Piercing intensity on the nose, with mango, candied citrus peels and salt. Only medium-bodied, but this is an athletic, precise and hugely energetic Ermite, with really driving, focused acidity and immense salty minerality. Straight, long, and intense. Rather than the extract and concentration of some recent warmer vintages, this has immense drive.

James Suckling

Stuart Pigott

The nose is like an essence of Mirabelle plums that pulls you into its tight inner orbit like a huge yellow star. This starts so quietly, but expands and expands as it flows over your palate in a way that’s not quite like any other white Rhone I can remember. How can a wine with such gigantic concentration have such perfect balance? The most amazing thing is the way the toasty richness interacts with the primal stony side of the wine: two faces of the same coin. Limited production. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Vinous

Nicolas Greinacher

The stunning 2021 Ermitage Blanc L'Ermite exhales intense hawthorn, flintstone, lemon peel, ripe pear, honeysuckle and white peach aromatics. The intentionally reductive elements are seamlessly integrated into the overall aromatic profile, making their presence felt without overshadowing everything else. Touching the palate with mind-boggling energy and elevated flavor concentration, the 2021 fires on all cylinders. Enjoy this immaculately sculpted L'Ermite over the next decade.
