M. Chapoutier : Riesling "Lieu-dit Berg" Domaine Schieferkopf 2023

Single vineyard that is on the same strip of blue schist as Lieu-Dit Buehl. Higher elevation and southern exposure. Fermented with ambient yeast and vinified in foudres. Certified organic. Cask sample. This has less of the yeasty aroma of the Buehl but more smoky reduction – fumy and herbal as spontaneously fermented Riesling can be. Bone dry, deep lime/lemon citrus beneath all those other non-fruit flavours. More intensity and apparent control than in the Buehl. Plenty of ripe-citrus sweetness on the finish. GV (JH)
