M. Chapoutier : Sicamor Blanc 2023

Crafted entirely from Marsanne planted on a combination of clay, granite and loess, the 2023 Crozes Hermitage Sicamor Blanc is gourmand, revealing aromas of almonds, white flowers and pear mingled with delicate oaky notes. Moderately weighted and enveloping, it's satiny and pure with good depth at the core, vibrant acidity and a saline finish enhanced by gastronomic bitterness.

The inaugural 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Blanc Sicamor uses grapes from 40-year-old Marsanne vines. Fermented in 600-liter French oak demi-muids and subsequently aged for 11 months, it opens with intense honeysuckle, yellow apple, pear, and a hint of hay on the nose. Medium-bodied and refreshing, the 2023 delivers lovely intensity and finishes with bright acidity and an uplifting close.

Coming from more granite soils in the northern part of the appellation, the 2023 Crozes-Hermitage Sicamor Blanc is a mineral bomb, with rocking notes of orange blossom, stone fruits, and crushed stone. This carries to a medium to full-bodied white that's beautifully balanced, has integrated acidity, and a great finish. Made from 100% Marsanne, it spent 10 months on lees in demi-muids followed by two months in stainless steel. Drink 2025-2030.
