Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Vosne-Romanée Village Domaine 2023 Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Colour
This red wine from France reveals a brilliant ruby colour, evolving towards delicate tulip nuances, testifying to a beautiful luminosity.
Nose
Particularly seductive, the bouquet opens with generous aromas of small red and black berries, dominated by cherry and wild strawberry. Aeration reveals lovely complexity with touches of almond, nougat, sweet spices and black tea, all underscored by elegant oak and a fine minerality.
Palate
The palate offers a fleshy, juicy texture, supported by harmonious concentration. The tannins, remarkably supple and silky, envelop the palate with delicacy. The finish, long and persistent, extends into the freshness of the fruit and a subtle mineral thread.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with noble poultry such as guinea fowl with morels or duck breast. It will also enhance tender meats such as veal fillet with mushrooms, truffle risotto, as well as washed-rind cheeses like Époisses or Saint-Nectaire.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the Vosne-Romanée Village Domaine 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 16°C, after aerating for about thirty minutes. Accessible in its youth, this wine will reveal its full potential from 2026 onwards and can be cellared until around 2043.
The elegance and purity of a Vosne-Romanée wine
The estate
Officially founded under its current name in 1981, the Domaine Méo-Camuzet is part of a winemaking heritage that began in the early twentieth century. Located at the heart of Burgundy, this illustrious estate, overseeing around 17 hectares, is now run by Jean-Nicolas Méo. Guided by the precepts of Henri Jayer, the current owner continues a philosophy centred on absolute respect for the terroir and minimal intervention in the cellar. Having become a true benchmark worldwide, the estate produces wines of great finesse, authentically reflecting their climats of origin.
The vineyard
The plots dedicated to this cuvée flourish on the prestigious terroir of Vosne-Romanée. Facing east and south-east, at an altitude ranging between 260 and 330 metres, the vines benefit from clay-limestone soils blending marl and fine limestone. The estate applies environmentally friendly methods, with regular ploughing of the soils and no use of herbicides whatsoever.
The vintage
The year 2023 began with a mild winter, followed by a slightly late budbreak in April. Ideal conditions in May favoured a rapid flowering in early June. While July proved unstable, marked by two very localised hail episodes, August brought generous sunshine and intense heat, allowing the berries to reach optimal ripeness for a harvest in early September.
Winemaking and aging
After manual harvesting and meticulous sorting, the winemaking of the Vosne-Romanée Village Domaine 2023 takes place gently, with light extractions and limited punching down at the end of fermentation. Aging takes place over a period of fifteen to eighteen months in oak barrels, about half of which are new, with moderate toasting to preserve the brightness of the fruit. Finally, bottling is carried out by gravity, without fining or filtration.
