27-year-old vines on the very dry sandy Sandlern vineyard. 16 hours of skin contact before pressing. Fermented spontaneously and aged 7 months in big acacia barrels. TA 6.3 g/l, RS 6.8 g/l. Much riper but also more obviously Riesling on the nose than the Sonne Riesling and with a light but attractive woody/cedary note from the acacia that may become more resinous as it ages. Rich, powerful and intense with lemon and lime fruit and a more exotic note of mango. Tastes off dry but very fresh with a hint of acacia honey on the palate. A big yet still refreshing wine. Bold and characterful but neither brash nor heavy. (JH)
