Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Gin Batch #1 from Distillerie de Paris
Tasting
Appearance
Gin Batch #1 presents itself as a classic London dry gin, crystal clear and perfectly colourless, with no added colouring and no cask ageing. Its texture is described as airy, almost ethereal, hinting at a remarkable lightness on the palate from the very first pour.
Nose
The nose opens with vivid, luminous top notes of bergamot and fresh coriander, before revealing a heart built around juniper berries, the true backbone of the gin. The base notes then unfold into a floral and spicy bouquet, carried by rose, jasmine, lavender and cinnamon, in an olfactory architecture directly inspired by perfumery.
Palate
On the palate, the gin retains the dryness typical of the London dry style, softened by bergamot and fresh coriander. The slow reduction to 43% ABV gives the spirit great smoothness, allowing the floral and spicy aromas to express themselves with finesse on a long, delicate and highly seductive finish.
Pairings and Tasting Occasions
Distillerie de Paris recommends enjoying Gin Batch #1 neat, to appreciate its full aromatic finesse, or topped up with tonic.
Mixology
Thanks to the richness of its floral and spicy bouquet, Gin Batch #1 is a delight for mixologists, who can use it to craft cocktails in which the gin stands out as the true aromatic protagonist.
Gin Batch #1, the Parisian perfume-gin by Distillerie de Paris
Distillerie de Paris, pioneer of French gin in the heart of the capital
Founded in 2014 by brothers Nicolas and Sébastien Julhès, Distillerie de Paris is the first legally authorised distillery in the French capital in more than a century, having started production on 22 January 2015. Located in the 10th arrondissement, on rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, this urban micro-distillery relies on a 400-litre Holstein still and on a culture of taste inherited from the Julhès family business, which combines a delicatessen, a cheese shop and a spirits cellar. It crafts French gins, flavoured vodkas, brandies and aged spirits in small batches, with a strong identity rooted in perfumery. Today run by Nicolas and Sébastien Julhès, owners and distillers, Distillerie de Paris embodies an artisanal, creative and pioneering savoir-faire in the heart of Paris.
Gin Batch #1: the first London dry gin by Distillerie de Paris
Gin Batch #1 is the very first recipe created by Distillerie de Paris, set from the first distillation in the house's 400-litre Holstein still. This London dry Gin is made from a neutral grape spirit, a choice that sets it apart from gins made with grain alcohol and gives it a distinctive roundness. Its recipe is explicitly inspired by François Coty's "Chypre" perfume, created in 1917, whose olfactory architecture of top, heart and base notes it transposes: bergamot and fresh coriander at the opening, juniper berries at the heart, then rose, jasmine, lavender and cinnamon in the base. This construction, borrowed from the codes of haute perfumery, makes Gin Batch #1 a true "perfume to drink", conceived in a Parisian neighbourhood historically associated with perfume houses. The reduction, slow and gradual, is carried out down to 43% ABV, in order to preserve the delicacy of the floral and spicy aromas. The gin is bottled in 50 cl (500 ml) bottles. A constant presence in the Distillerie de Paris range since the house's beginnings, Gin Batch #1 is internationally recognised, notably through distributors in Japan and China, as the very first gin crafted by this pioneering distillery, and remains the founding reference from which other creations have been developed.
