Tasting tips for Nikka Nine Decades 90th Anniversary Limited Edition
Tasting
Nose
The nose reveals an intense sweetness reminiscent of apple pie and raisins, accompanied by toasted notes from cask ageing. Gentle smoke mingles with nostalgic aromas of old wood, creating a rich, layered olfactory experience.
Palate
On the palate, a mellow, deep oak base supports spicy notes of cinnamon, roasted nuts and dark chocolate. The slight bitterness of the peat is balanced by sweet flavours of candied apricot and maple syrup, the whole evoking the warmth and comfort of a log fire.
A prestigious limited-edition Japanese blended whisky
Nikka, an essential name among the great Japanese whiskies
Nikka was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the pioneer of Japanese whisky, following his return from Scotland, where he had learned the art of distillation. The Nikka house has established itself as one of Japan's most prestigious whisky brands, renowned for its mastery of blending and its use of a range of distilleries, both in Japan and in Scotland, including Ben Nevis. Today, Nikka continues to shine through its heritage and innovation, offering whiskies acclaimed for their exceptional quality and aromatic depth.
Nine Decades Whisky, a prestigious limited-edition spirit
Drawn from six distilleries (Yoichi, Nishinomiya, Miyagikyo, Moji, Satsumatsukasa and Ben Nevis), Nine Decades 90th Anniversary is the result of a meticulous blend of whiskies distilled between the 1940s and the 2020s. Each distillery contributes its own unique character, from the intense malt of Yoichi to the softness of the grain whiskies from the Moji and Nishinomiya distilleries.
This Japanese whisky is a complex and elegant blend of more than 50 distinct batches of whisky, including the oldest reserves from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, as well as whiskies used for the Nikka Discovery collection.
A wooden case showcasing an exceptional bottling
This limited edition is presented in an elegant box set comprising:
- firstly, a booklet written in Japanese and English, recounting the fascinating stories of each decade of production and presenting the iconic whiskies of each era.
- secondly, a handcrafted bottle featuring unique, symbolic elements. The stopper, for instance, is made up of 9 stacked square shapes, representing the perfect harmony of whiskies produced over 9 decades. At its base, a 6-colour chequerboard pattern symbolises the 6 distilleries involved in creating this whisky. In addition, the bottle is adorned with a traditional engraving known as "Edo-bori", a glass-engraving technique born in Tokyo and a Japanese variation on sandblast engraving, which originated in the West.
