Precise and highly expressive, the bouquet opens with warm spice notes such as cinnamon and clove, supported by hints of fine wood and vanilla. With aeration, complex aromas of aged tobacco emerge, accompanied by mineral nuances.

Palate
The attack is smooth and concentrated, offering a broad, velvety structure. The spices intensify, blending seamlessly with the moderate warmth of the alcohol. On the mid-palate, they merge with fruity flavours before giving way to elegant, menthol accents. The whole is remarkably coherent, taut and perfectly balanced. The finish is very persistent, fresh and mineral, marked by subtle woody impressions.

The Estate

Heir to a sugar-making tradition dating back to the 18th century, the Distillerie de Savanna took its name in the early 19th century. Modernised between 1948 and 1950 by the visionary Émile Hugot, it has been based since 1992 at the Bois-Rouge site in Saint-André. This jewel of La Réunion stands out worldwide for its unique ability to produce three categories of rum at a single site: traditional, agricole and grand arôme. Savanna upholds exceptional expertise through equipment that blends tradition and innovation, such as its copper columns and humid tropical ageing warehouses located along the Indian Ocean coast.

The Spirit

The Savanna 15 Years Old is an exceptional aged traditional rum, made from molasses sourced from the neighbouring Bois-Rouge sugar refinery. After batch fermentation, the cane wine is distilled in a copper column at a moderate proof, capturing a wealth of aromatic richness. This rum then undergoes an extended fifteen-year ageing process in the distillery's humid tropical warehouses. This maturation under a warm climate considerably accelerates the interaction between the spirit and the wood. The distillate rests in carefully selected French oak barrels, giving the spirit smooth tannins and a delicate woody influence, favouring elegance over power.
