Description
Tasting Notes and Characteristics of The Lakes Whiskymaker's Edition Equinox
Tasting Notes
Appearance
A natural, light golden hue, reminiscent of the warm, low-slanting light of a summer sunset.
Nose
An elegant and indulgent bouquet where aromas of apple turnover, fresh apricots and sweet baking spices intertwine. The whole is enhanced by whiffs of sandalwood and a delicate hint of orange blossom.
Palate
The texture is vibrant and wonderfully supple. The palate reveals a warm symphony of apple pie and orchard fruits, lifted by bakery spices reminiscent of autumn's sweetness. The finish proves rich and lively, leaving lingering, comforting spices in its wake.
Food Pairings and Tasting Occasions
Perfect for marking the transition between seasons and moments of quiet contemplation, this single malt can be enjoyed neat or with just a drop of water to release its floral notes. It shines particularly well alongside orchard fruit desserts, such as a first-harvest apple crumble, a caramelised apple tart or an apricot cake.
Mixology
While primarily a sipping spirit, it can also be enjoyed in the "perfect serve" named Cyrnel, a creation designed by the brand to enhance its floral notes and sweet spices while respecting its structure.
An English Whisky with Autumnal Accents by The Lakes
The Lakes Distillery: Excellence at the Heart of the Lake District
Founded in 2014 by Paul Currie, The Lakes Distillery has established itself as a major player in the revival of British spirits, offering a fascinating alternative to traditional Scotch whisky. Located within the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the distillery occupies a former Victorian model farm from the 1850s that has been meticulously restored. The Lakes' identity is built on a rigorous production philosophy: an exceptionally long 96-hour fermentation, slow distillation and maturation primarily focused on sherry casks. Since June 2024, the estate has come under the ownership of the sparkling wine house Nyetimber. Its current leaders, Eric Heerema (CEO) and Hans Sleeuwenhoek (Managing Director), now oversee the destiny of this singular distillery, while preserving the artisanal approach and the intricate art of blending that have earned it international renown.
The Whiskymaker's Edition Equinox: A Celebration of Autumn
Inspired by the last light of a warm summer evening and the promise of an amber autumn morning, the non-vintage Whiskymaker's Edition Equinox is an exceptional English single malt Whisky. This limited edition belongs to a collection conceived as a true canvas for free expression by the distillery's creator, celebrating balance, change and reflection.
Crafted exclusively from 100% British barley, this spirit benefits from extended fermentation and low-temperature distillation in pot stills. Its dynamic maturation is a true technical feat: the distillates evolve through a carefully curated selection of American and Spanish oak casks, including Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, as well as red wine and ex-Calvados casks.
This complex process, followed by a long marrying period before bottling, results in an aromatic profile of remarkable richness. Unlike the House's classic expressions, this limited-edition whisky highlights a more floral and fruity dimension, capturing the very essence of the autumn equinox in every drop.
