In-Stock
Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Signature Barrel Fermented Torrontés 2025 by Susana Balbo
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a radiant golden hue, occasionally pale yellow, enhanced by brilliant reflections.
Nose
Particularly expressive and complex, the nose unveils a rich palette of tropical fruits such as lychee, melon and mango. These mingle with refreshing citrus notes of lemon zest and grapefruit, harmoniously complemented by delicate floral touches of rose and verbena, along with subtle nuances of wild honey and vanilla.
Palate
Full and harmonious, the palate seduces with its silky, creamy texture. Endowed with a rich body and beautiful acidic tension, this wine offers a lingering finish, marked by a minerality reminiscent of wet stone, lemony flavours and floral notes.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs wonderfully with fish and shellfish. Its aromatic richness also makes it the ideal companion for the spicy and fragrant dishes of Asian cuisines, particularly Indian, Thai and Chinese. It further enhances hard cheeses such as Parmesan or Manchego.
The singular expression of an Argentinian white wine from Mendoza
The estate
Founded in 1999 in Luján de Cuyo, in the heart of the Mendoza region, the Susana Balbo Wines estate embodies Argentinian winemaking excellence. At the helm of the property, Susana Balbo, the current owner and Argentina's first female oenologist, is globally recognised as the pioneer of the Torrontés grape variety. Strongly focused on export and innovation, this family-run bodega stands out for its modern vision and its roots in fine gastronomy. The brand now enjoys undeniable international renown.
The vineyard
The grapes come exclusively from Finca La Delfina, a vineyard planted in 2005 and perched at 1,150 metres of altitude in Paraje Altamira, within the Valle de Uco. This mountain terroir, subject to a cool climate with strong thermal amplitude, rests on sandy loam soils rich in colluvial stones and limestone. The vines, grown from clones originating in Cafayate, are hand-harvested to preserve all the purity and freshness of the berries.
Winemaking and ageing
Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes destined for the Signature Barrel Fermented Torrontés 2025 are cooled to 6°C and then destemmed. Skin maceration takes place in the press under a protective atmosphere of dry ice for two hours. After gentle pressing at low pressure and clarification, fermentation is carried out entirely in new French oak barrels using selected yeasts. Ageing then continues in these same new barrels for four to six months, accompanied by weekly bâtonnage of the lees to bring volume and creaminess.
Grape variety
100% Torrontés.
