Decanter

Candied lemons, some baked apples, hints of peach and some fragrant floral touches. Streamlined and focused, this has a lovely fresh and energetic core with crisp apple and lemon but balanced by a slightly textured mouthfeel. Mouthwatering, fresh, precise but not at all tart. A softly baked element and slightly creamy vanilla touch on the finish adds softness and roundness. Elegant. 3.25 pH. 70% ageing in new oak, 500 and 400l barrels.

Flowers, honey, banana peel, white peach, pears, and green apple notes fill the perfume. The palate is bright, fresh, crisp, juicy, and fruity, ending with a blast of sweet, vibrant citrus, and sweet, white peaches. The wine blends 60% Sauvignon Blanc, with 40% Semillon. Drink from 2027-2034. 93-93 Pts

Pure clay vineyard, and a great year for Sémillon means this delivers juicy, ripe, round tarte tartin and poached pear flavours, with an unfussy feel, estate character and plenty of personality. 3.25 pH. 75% new oak. Harvest September 2 to 8, with the picking taking place in waves (and many of the pickers been doing this with Jean-Luc Thunevin for 35 years). His final full harvest to be overseeing the wine, as he has now sold the estate to Marie and Jean-Christophe Lefévère of Château Sansonnet.

Characteristics and tasting notes of Virginie de Valandraud 2025

Tasting

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with delicate fruity notes reminiscent of peach and pear, subtly complemented by floral hints of acacia.

Palate
From the first sip, this wine reveals a silky texture and remarkable balance, carried by lovely acidity. The expression of Sémillon is particularly pronounced. The whole offers a profile that brilliantly combines energy and freshness. The finish, with great precision and harmony, ends on an elegant touch of bitterness.

A Dry White Bordeaux by Château Valandraud combining silkiness and freshness

The estate
Located in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, in the renowned region of Bordeaux, Château Valandraud is an emblematic property. Founded in 1989 by its current owners, Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife Murielle Andraud, this estate quickly gained international recognition. A true pioneer, the estate has distinguished itself through its innovative approach and uncompromising commitment to quality. Today, the vineyard produces exceptional cuvées that reflect the unique identity of their terroir, blending modernity with respect for winemaking traditions.

The vineyard
The vines used for this cuvée extend over a harvested area of 3 hectares. With an average age of 20 years, they thrive on a clay-limestone terroir benefiting from a south-west exposure, offering ideal conditions for the production of great Dry White Bordeaux.

The vintage
The 2025 vintage benefited from an early start to the growing season thanks to ample water reserves and a favourable spring, providing the cool terroirs dedicated to white wines with ideal conditions to preserve delicate balances and naturally low pH levels. The harvest, more classic than for the reds, began on 4 September with remarkable consistency. The cool limestone soils played a key role in the tension and freshness of the wines.

Winemaking and aging
Aged for six months, revealing a refined and elegant profile. This process is divided between new oak barrels for 75% and terracotta amphorae for the remaining 25%. Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.

Grape varieties
This blend is composed of 60% Sémillon and 40% Sauvignon Blanc.
