The estate

Founded in 1969 by Dr Bailey Carrodus in the Yarra Valley, in the state of Victoria, Yarra Yering is one of the pioneering estates of the region's viticultural renaissance. Today, the estate cultivates around 29 hectares of dry-farmed vines at the foot of the Warramate Hills. Since late 2013, Sarah Crowe, an award-winning winemaker and general manager, has led the estate alongside Andrew George, vineyard manager. Yarra Yering is distinguished by its dry-farmed, low-yielding viticulture and its recognised commitment to sustainability.

The vineyard

The vineyard from which Agincourt Cabernet Malbec originates lies within Yarra Yering's historic terroir, in Gruyere, in the heart of the Yarra Valley, at the foot of the Warramate Hills. The vines, grown without irrigation, benefit from grey clay-silt soil interspersed with bands of gravel, on a north-facing slope that promotes ripeness while preserving the freshness characteristic of the region's cool climate. Yields are deliberately kept very low, and the vineyard is managed with particular attention to biodiversity, notably through the planting of varied cover crops that enrich soil life and structure.

Winemaking and ageing

In the cellar, this Australian wine benefits from Yarra Yering's expertise, built on hand harvesting and rigorous berry sorting. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec are carefully vinified before being blended, then aged in French oak barrels, in keeping with the precise, refined style that characterises the estate's red wines.
