Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Lombard 2024 Yves Cuilleron

Tasting notes

Colour
The colour is clear and reveals a lovely pale golden hue.

Nose
Displaying great finesse and marked by a fine mineral tension, the nose reveals aromas of ripe fruit (pear, white peach, apricot) and citrus oil. It then opens up with notes of honeysuckle, almond cream and subtle touches of fresh herbs.

Palate
Rich yet never heavy, the palate offers perfect balance thanks to a fine tension. The fruity flavours mingle with notes of white pepper and pastry. The texture, both round and creamy, is refreshed by a mineral backbone and lovely acidity, leading to a long, saline finish with great freshness.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with seafood (crab, lobster), sushi or roast poultry. It also enhances fish served in delicate sauces, such as fish with curry and coconut milk, as well as vegetarian dishes with fresh herbs.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate the Lombard 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 12°C. This wine can be enjoyed now for its fruit, but will reach its peak between 2026 and 2031, with an ageing potential of up to around 2033.

Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13.5%.

The elegance and minerality of a Saint-Joseph white wine

The estate

Founded in 1920 by Claude Cuilleron, the family estate is located in Chavanay, in the heart of the Rhône Valley in France. Since 1987, Yves Cuilleron has been at the helm of the estate and has managed to transform this modest domaine into a major reference. Today, the vineyard covers around 77 hectares. The producer stands out for its bespoke, so-called "haute couture" approach to viticulture, favouring meticulous manual work and an independent philosophy that steers clear of traditional certifications, in order to best express the authenticity of its terroirs.

The vineyard

Hailing from the Saint-Joseph appellation, this wine comes from old Marsanne vines planted on hillsides with granitic and sandy soils. Benefiting from an east to south-east exposure, the vines enjoy ideal sunlight without excessive heat. The estate practises rigorous manual viticulture, with yields controlled through green harvesting and natural soil maintenance, thereby preserving the biodiversity and health of the terroir.

Winemaking and ageing

After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the whole bunches are pressed directly. The Lombard 2024 ferments using indigenous yeasts directly in wood. Ageing takes place over a period of nine months, split equally between wooden foudres and Burgundian barrels aged one to four years. The wine rests on its lees with regular stirring to gain textural complexity, before undergoing light filtration at bottling.
