Characteristics and tasting tips for Anejo 15 Anos Havana Club
Tasting
Appearance
An alluring hue ranging from amber to deep amber, adorned with coppery and golden highlights. Its unctuous texture hints at fine legs on the side of the glass, the promise of a long maturation in the tropics.
Nose
Remarkably persistent, the bouquet opens with soft, very fruity notes that offer an unexpected freshness. With aeration, a complex structure unfolds, blending aromas of ripe fruit, roasted coffee, sweet spices and a delicate hint of cocoa.
Palate
Smooth and indulgent, the palate reveals an elegant structure supported by gentle oak. It unfolds a rich palette of plum, pear and fig, enhanced by touches of fresh cane sugar, chocolate and coconut. The finish is exceptionally long, marked by an irresistible note of ripe, chocolate-coated coconut.
Pairings and tasting occasions
This sipping spirit is best enjoyed neat at the end of a meal, served in a tulip glass at 18 to 20°C to reveal its full range of nuances. A large ice cube may be added, according to preference. When it comes to food, it pairs beautifully with dark chocolate and dried fruit desserts, coconut pastries or thin pear tarts. It also creates a perfectly harmonious pairing when enjoyed alongside an espresso.
Mixology
Although this exceptional spirit stands on its own and is best enjoyed unadorned, it can also inspire high-end mixology. Bartenders sometimes use it in "spirit-forward" sipping cocktails, such as sophisticated variations on the Old Fashioned or the Manhattan, subtly pairing it with sugar syrup, lime juice and a few dashes of bitters.
A prestigious Cuban rum, shaped by time and tradition
Havana Club: the emblem of Cuban rum and its heritage
Founded in 1935 by the Arechabala family, the Havana Club brand is today the undisputed symbol of Cuban rum around the world. Following its nationalisation in 1960, the brand is now owned by Havana Club International S.A., a 50/50 joint venture between the French group Pernod Ricard and the state-owned company Cuba Ron. Under the direction of Michael Merolli, the house produces its spirits at the Santa Cruz del Norte and San José distilleries. Havana Club's identity rests on a unique expertise, that of the Maestros del Ron Cubano, which is inscribed on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The brand also stands out for its strong environmental commitments, placing the circular economy and renewable energy at the heart of its production.
The meticulous crafting of an exceptional cuvée
Anejo 15 Anos is a highly prestigious aged rum that embodies the quintessence of the light Cuban style. This rum is the result of a complex blend of high-quality distillates known as "aguardientes". Production begins with the rigorous selection of Cuban molasses, which is fermented and then distilled in continuous column stills.
The magic then happens during ageing. Each component of this blend rests for a minimum of fifteen years in white oak casks that previously held whisky. This long maturation takes place in the hot, humid tropical climate of Cuba, accelerating the exchanges with the wood and concentrating the aromas through the angels' share.
Overseen by the master rum blenders, the continuous ageing system ensures remarkable aromatic consistency. By combining casks of various ages, some far older than the fifteen years required, the house creates a liquid masterpiece in which maturity is perfectly balanced by a surprising freshness.
