The finesse and structure of a wine from Trentino Alto Adige, Italy

    The Estate

Nestled in the heart of the Alpine valleys, the Tenuta San Leonardo extends along the banks of the Adige to the south of Trento in Italy. The Alps rise on either side of the vineyards that sit in this powerful and picturesque landscape. Very ancient, the origins of Tenuta San Leonardo date back to the 11th century. Founded in 1724, Tenuta San Leonardo is owned by the Marchesi Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga family.

    The Vineyard

This estate in Trentino Alto Adige spreads over nearly 300 hectares, 30 of which are vineyards, located at altitudes ranging from 150 to 300 meters. Merlot is planted on gravel-rich terroirs, while cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and carmenère are planted on sandier soils, with a neutral pH.

    The Wine

Terre di San Leonardo 2021 is a Vigneti delle Dolomiti wine made from vines aged 3 to 25 years.

    Vinification and Aging

Fermentation is carried out spontaneously, followed by a maceration of 12 to 15 days in cement tanks with regular pump-overs. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months, evenly divided between cement tanks and second and third-fill French oak barrels. Finally, it rests for six months in the bottle before being marketed.

    Blend

    Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and carmenère.
