Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with mouthwatering notes of yellow fruit and lemon, subtly complemented by touches of white flowers and a lovely mineral dimension.
Palate
The palate offers great precision and suppleness. It reveals a rich, fruity texture, perfectly balanced by a thirst-quenching freshness. The finish, pleasantly long, is marked by a delicate phenolic note.
Food and Wine Pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with white fish served with lemon butter, poultry in a creamy mushroom sauce, or vegetable risottos. Among cheeses, it will enhance uncooked pressed cheeses such as a young Comté or Saint-Nectaire.
The Ambitious Expression of a Burgundy Chardonnay by Verget
The Estate
Founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens and Maine Heynen, the négociant house Verget is based in Sologny, in the heart of Burgundy. Now run by the founding couple alongside cellar master Julien Desplans, this house stands out for its bespoke approach. Unlike traditional négociants, Verget buys only grapes, mainly in the Mâconnais, in order to retain complete control over the winemaking process. This absolute quest for truth and precision earned the house the title of Négociant of the Year in 2020.
The Vineyard
This Burgundy wine originates from the limestone terroirs of the Mâconnais. The house rigorously selects its partner plots, favouring quality-focused vines. The growers commit to controlled yields and exclusively hand-harvested grapes, thus ensuring fruit picked at full ripeness and in impeccable condition.
Vinification and Ageing
To craft the Bourgogne "Grand Elevage" 2025, the house applies its methods of excellence: slow whole-bunch pressing and meticulous vinification. Ageing takes place entirely in barrels, with a measured proportion of new oak to preserve the brightness of the fruit. The wine then rests on its lees for around eight months, a crucial stage that gives it its ample texture and aromatic complexity.
