Tasting characteristics and advice for the Fleur de Crussol 2023 from Alain Voge
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a pale yellow hue with golden highlights.
Nose
The nose reveals a delicate, complex bouquet, marked by floral notes of white blossoms and fresh spring flowers. Aromas of white stone fruit emerge, notably white peach and almond. A mineral dimension comes through with impressions of crushed stone, while hints of honey and almond croissant add a subtle gourmet touch. Spicy nuances complete this refined aromatic palette.
Palate
On the palate, this white wine charms with its medium-bodied texture, both rich and deep. The palate reveals fine concentration with stone-fruit flavors accompanied by notes of marmalade and spices that add complexity and dimension. The lively, finely chiseled acidity brings freshness and energy without any harshness. The mineral structure lends a crystalline quality that carries through beautifully. The finish stands out for its purity, remarkable precision, and refreshing persistence.
Food and wine pairings
The Fleur de Crussol 2023 pairs harmoniously with oysters and fresh seafood. It also accompanies delicate white fish with elegance, such as perch with chanterelles or zander. White meats like chicken or turkey, especially when prepared with creamy sauces, make excellent partners. Light cuisine highlighting vegetables and aromatic herbs will enhance this wine’s floral character. For a more elaborate pairing, lièvre à la royale will highlight notes of leather, pepper, and the delicate tannins that develop over time.
Serving and cellaring
The Fleur de Crussol 2023 is best served at a temperature between 9 and 12°C. This cuvée benefits from a few years of bottle aging to fully reveal its potential. The wine can be kept until around 2033 under good storage conditions.

The estate
Founded in the early 1900s by Henri Voge, this family estate has today established itself as an essential benchmark in the Northern Rhône Valley. Alain Voge, who passed away in September 2020, devoted more than fifty years to transforming the family farm into a top-tier wine estate, a pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the Cornas and Saint-Péray appellations. The estate spans thirteen hectares, fully certified organic and biodynamic since 2013. Today, the property belongs to the Voge family, notably represented by Nathalie Voge, Alain’s daughter, while day-to-day management is overseen by Lionel Fraisse as Managing Director, in partnership with Michel Chapoutier. This structure ensures continuity of the founding philosophy, favoring the expression of terroir and quality over yield.
The vineyard
Fleur de Crussol comes from a single plot located in the lieu-dit La Côte, in the historic heart of the Saint-Péray appellation, directly above the village and facing the Château de Crussol and the massif of the same name. The Marsanne vines, among the oldest on the estate and in the appellation, are around 80 years old. They grow on an exceptional terroir of granitic colluvial soils mixed with limestone deposits, a combination that gives the wine both the crystalline minerality of granite and the structure provided by limestone. The slope enjoys a southeast exposure at around two hundred meters of altitude. The vines are gobelet-trained and individually trellised, using environmentally respectful methods. Harvesting is exclusively by hand.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage proved particularly demanding for winegrowers in the Northern Rhône Valley. After a relatively mild winter and spring with moderate rainfall, a historic frost episode struck the vineyards on April 8, causing around 50% crop losses in Saint-Péray. The season continued with exceptionally wet conditions, totaling 896 millimeters of rainfall. Harvest took place from September 13 to October 2, two to three weeks later than usual. Despite these climatic challenges, this classic-styled vintage is characterized by its freshness, delicacy, and softness, with moderate alcohol levels and fine harmony between alcoholic and phenolic ripeness.
Vinification and aging
The Fleur de Crussol 2023 grapes are harvested by hand in small crates to preserve their integrity. Fermentation is carried out with naturally present indigenous yeasts, in 400-liter oak barrels, with 20% new wood and 80% older barrels. The wine then remains on fine lees for seventeen months, a period that encourages the development of complexity and texture while preserving freshness. This minimalist approach, with limited use of new oak, favors a vertical, fresh style that highlights natural minerality and fruit expression.
