Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine du Clos Frantin 2023 by Albert Bichot
Tasting
Nose
Highly intense, the bouquet reveals a beautiful complexity, weaving together aromas of red and black fruits, such as cherry, with floral notes, smoke and sweet spices. Touches of green tea, tobacco and dried fruits blend in harmoniously. Over the years, this aromatic profile will develop nuances of leather, undergrowth and more pronounced spices.
Palate
On the palate, this wine proves rich, ample and remarkably smooth. Its satiny texture is underpinned by tannins of great finesse. The whole offers a substance that is both powerful and caressing, extending into a velvety finish of remarkable length.
Food and wine pairings
This prestigious cuvée will elevate finely prepared noble meats, whether roasted or served with a sauce. It will pair beautifully with beef, duck, lamb, pork or game. For a perfect harmony, the estate suggests a beef tenderloin coated with a marchand de vin sauce. As for cheeses, opt for medium to full-flavoured varieties.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the Chambertin Grand Cru Dom. du Clos Frantin 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 17°C. Endowed with excellent ageing potential, it can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until around 2033, or even beyond for lovers of old vintages.
A Burgundy Grand Cru combining delicacy and precision
The estate
Founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot, the Albert Bichot House permanently settled in Beaune in 1912. Today led by Albéric Bichot, representative of the sixth generation, this emblematic Burgundy brand shines internationally. The estate stretches over approximately 105 hectares spread from the north to the south of the region. A true benchmark, the property stands out for its deep commitment to sustainable and organic viticulture, as well as for its historic status as the leading buyer at the famous Hospices de Beaune auctions.
The vineyard
The plot giving rise to this Chambertin covers a confidential area of 0.17 hectare. Ideally located in the upper part of the Climat on a gentle slope, the vines, aged 40 to 50 years on average, thrive on brown limestone soils with relatively marly earth. Cultivated according to the principles of certified organic farming since 2012, this specific terroir gives the grapes a later maturity, often making this vineyard the last to be harvested on the estate.
Winemaking and ageing
To produce the Chambertin Grand Cru Dom. du Clos Frantin 2023, the grapes are hand-picked and then meticulously sorted upon their arrival in the winery. Vinification is intentionally low-intervention to respect the authentic expression of the terroir. The fermentation maceration takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 18 to 21 days. The wine is then transferred by gravity for ageing in oak barrels, of which 40 to 50% are new, for a period of 16 to 18 months, allowing for a well-integrated and discreet oak character.
