Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Meursault 1er cru "Charmes" Domaine du Pavillon 2024 by Albert Bichot
Tasting
Appearance
This white wine stands out for its luminous clarity, typical of the great Chardonnays of the Côte de Beaune.
Nose
The nose is generous and charming, with notes of candied lemon, almond and white flowers, enhanced by touches of spice and freshly baked bread crumb.
Palate
The palate is ample and full, enlivened by a mineral tension that supports the richness of the wine. The particularly long finish lingers with hints of brioche and spice.
A Meursault 1er Cru shaped by the blend of the Charmes-Dessus and Charmes-Dessous terroirs
The estate
Founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot, Albert Bichot is now run by Albéric Bichot, representing the sixth generation of the family. Based in Beaune since 1912, the house brings together six estates spanning the great wine regions of Burgundy, with more than 100 hectares of its own vines. Renowned for its dual status as both négociant-éleveur and estate owner, Albert Bichot is also distinguished by its commitment to sustainable viticulture that respects the terroir.
The vineyard
The Meursault 1er Cru climat "Les Charmes" is considered one of the finest terroirs of the Meursault appellation. It comprises two areas with distinct soils: Charmes-Dessous, with richer clay soils, and Charmes-Dessus, with fine soils close to the limestone bedrock. Domaine du Pavillon owns three plots there, two in Charmes-Dessus and one in Charmes-Dessous, farmed according to organic viticulture principles.
Vinification and ageing
The vinification of the Meursault 1er cru "Charmes" Dom. du Pavillon 2024 follows a minimal-intervention philosophy, favouring gentle transfers from tank to ageing barrels. The wine is aged in oak barrels of varied origins and toasting levels, combining new and older wood to achieve a subtle, perfectly integrated oak influence that serves the expression of the terroir.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
