    Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Malconsorts" Domaine du Clos Frantin 2017 by Albert Bichot

    Tasting

    Nose
The bouquet is refined and complex, revealing aromas of red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant. These fruity notes are accompanied by a delicate touch of oak and subtle spicy hints, rounded out by nuances of leather that attest to the wine’s concentration.

    Palate
On the palate, it offers a supple, full texture supported by an elegant tannic structure. The tannins are powerful yet silky, coating the mouth without aggressiveness. The wine stands out for its remarkable density and its balance between power and finesse, leading into a persistent finish with licorice notes.

    Food pairing

This Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru pairs wonderfully with finely prepared meat dishes, whether roasted or served with a sauce: beef, lamb, pork, game and duck. It also complements medium-bodied cheeses with elegance. The ideal pairing remains beef fillet Tournedos Rossini.

    Serving and cellaring

The Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Malconsorts" Domaine du Clos Frantin 2017 is served at a temperature between 16 and 17°C. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be kept until around 2027, possibly beyond.

A Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru from an exceptional terroir

    The estate

The house of Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot in Monthélie and remains a family business to this day, run by Albéric Bichot. Permanently based in Beaune since 1912, it farms over 100 hectares of vineyards spread across six Burgundy domaines: Clos Frantin, Château Gris, Pavillon, Adélie, Rochegrès and Long-Depaquit. With 13 hectares of Grands Crus and 26 hectares of Premiers Crus, Albert Bichot is regarded as a leader in organic wines among the Beaune houses.

    The vineyard

Domaine du Clos Frantin owns 1.76 hectares of the "Les Malconsorts" site in Vosne-Romanée. This exceptional terroir rests on limestone Rendzina soils and benefits from a particularly sunny exposure. The vines, averaging 35 to 40 years old, enjoy a privileged location: the site borders La Tâche and lies less than 400 meters from Romanée-Conti as well as less than 600 meters from Richebourg. The name of the site is said to stem from historical legal disputes between co-owners.

    Vinification and aging

The harvest is carried out by hand, followed by strict selection at the estate. Fermentation and maceration take place over 18 to 21 days in temperature-controlled wooden vats. The Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Malconsorts" Dom. du Clos Frantin 2017 then ages for 16 to 17 months in oak barrels, 35 to 40% of which are new.

    Grape variety

This red wine from Bourgogne is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
