Description
A Greek white wine from an exceptional estate
The estate
Alpha Estate was founded in 1995 by two wine enthusiasts: Angelos Iatridis, now cellar master, and Makis Mavridis, who now oversees the vineyard. From 2011 onwards, the estate began exporting a large share of its wines, and in 2014 Alpha Estate was listed in Wine & Spirit Magazine’s Best World 100 Wineries—an accolade it received again in 2019 and 2021. The estate was also named European Winery of the Year in 2020 by the prestigious Wine Enthusiast magazine.
The vineyard
Alpha Estate’s vineyards cover 220 hectares and are divided into six distinct sites. All are located near the winery in the heart of the Amyndeon appellation, in Greece. The estate’s approach to viticulture is rooted in carefully listening to the needs of the soils, plants, and vines in order to preserve ecosystems. Thanks to the sustainable methods used at Alpha Estate, the estate was awarded the “Certified Sustainable Viticulture” label in 2008.
Winemaking and ageing
Destemming, optical grape sorting, and gentle crushing. Skin maceration followed by alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The ageing of this Macedonian wine in white oak barrels and a Greek Robolo tank (75 hl) lasts 9 months, with regular lees stirring.
Grape variety
Malagouzia Ecosystem Barrel Fermented 2024 by Alpha Estate is 100% Malagouzia.
