    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Alphonse Mellot's "Satellite" 2023

    Tasting notes

    Appearance
This white wine from the Loire Valley reveals a beautiful golden hue, enhanced by bright reflections.

    Nose
Elegant and remarkably pure, the bouquet unveils aromas of grapefruit, white flowers and ripe quince, all uplifted by a lovely minerality.

    Palate
Harmonious, the palate offers wonderful vibrancy paired with soft, refreshing fruitiness. The tasting unfolds on a long, luminous finish, with iodine and crystalline notes.

    Food and wine pairings
This cuvée is an ideal match for seafood, such as oysters or a langoustine cassolette, as well as fish. It also pairs perfectly with goat cheeses, particularly Crottin de Chavignol.

    Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience of the "Satellite" 2023, we recommend serving it at a temperature of around 11°C, being sure to open it half an hour beforehand. This wine offers immediate pleasure while providing cellaring potential until approximately 2030.

The elegance and balance of a Sancerre wine

    The estate
The Mellot family's history in winegrowing dates back to 1513, when the first archives attesting to their presence were created. Located in Sancerre in the Loire Valley, the Alphonse Mellot estate today extends over 48 hectares. A pioneer of sustainable viticulture, the estate stands out for its complete commitment to organic and biodynamic farming. This rigorous philosophy makes it possible to produce Loire wines of great purity, recognised worldwide for their faithful expression of the local terroirs.

    The vineyard
The wine comes from five superb lieux-dits located on the slopes of Chavignol, in the heart of Sancerre. The old vines, aged between forty and seventy years, are planted on clay-limestone soils and benefit from a south and south-east exposure. The whole vineyard is rigorously cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic farming.

    Vinification and ageing
The grapes for the "Satellite" 2023 are hand-harvested into small 25 kg crates in order to preserve the berries. Following a manual sorting on a conveyor belt and a gentle pressing, fermentation and ageing take place over nine months in truncated wooden vats. The wine then benefits from a final ageing stage in bulk on the lees for six months, before being carefully bottled in accordance with the lunar calendar.
