The freshness and delicacy of a great Italian Chianti Classico wine

The estate

An iconic representative of the great wines of Tuscany, Italy and the world, the Tenuta Tignanello of the Antinori family is located in the historic heart of the Chianti Classico area. Set in an enchanting landscape, the estate sits in the heart of the hills between the Greve and Pesa rivers. Tenuta Tignanello is world-renowned for its two iconic crus: Tignanello and Solaia. These two crus are considered among the most influential Tuscan wines in the history of Italian viticulture.

The vineyard

The Antinori - Tenuta Tignanello estate extends over 319 hectares, of which 130 are dedicated to wine production. The vines are planted on marl soils dating from the Pliocene, rich in limestone and schist. The Mediterranean climate of the area is characterized by significant temperature variations between night and day during the vines' ripening cycle. The location and terroir of this Tuscan vineyard are particularly suited to the cultivation of the sangiovese grape. Other varieties are present, such as cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by below-average precipitation until August. Spring and summer brought high temperatures, with averages for June and July above normal for this region. Despite these conditions, the vines demonstrated remarkable resilience: bud break and flowering were regular, and the vines developed optimally during the hottest summer months. The grapes showed optimal vegetative growth and a well-balanced crop load at the start of veraison. Mid-August brought showers and a drop in temperatures, promoting ideal day-to-night variations and ensuring an ideal ripening phase. Excellent autumn weather guaranteed fruit of exceptional quality. Harvesting began in mid-September with sangiovese and concluded in early October with cabernet sauvignon.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes were destemmed, then subjected to gentle crushing and transferred to vats. Alcoholic fermentation lasting about one week. A one-week skin maceration with gentle pump-overs and rack-and-return methods to ensure optimal extraction while preserving the elegance and suppleness of the tannins. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation, completed by the end of the year. After the Blend, the juices are casked in French and Hungarian oak barrels for approximately one year of aging. Finally, the wine undergoes an additional year of bottle aging before being released.

Blend

Sangiovese (100%).
