The 2023 Bourgogne 3 Cépages, so-called as it contains 80% Chardonnay and 10% each of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, has an attractive bouquet with lemon verbena, orchard fruit and light Muscat aromas. The Pinot Gris actually dominates the palate despite its minor role in the blend, and perhaps because of that, the 2023 just misses a little acidic "bite." Nonetheless, it is enjoyable all the same.

    Description

Tasting Notes and Recommendations for the Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc 2023 by Armand Heitz

    Tasting

    Appearance

The wine displays a pale yellow color enhanced by subtle green highlights.

    Nose

The nose reveals delicate aromas of white flowers, notably acacia and honeysuckle, combined with fresh citrus notes reminiscent of lemon and pear. A stony mineral touch completes this elegant aromatic bouquet.

    Palate

On the palate, this wine immediately charms with its lively attack and freshness. The structure reveals a fine balance between the natural acidity of Chardonnay and a delicate roundness. The citrus notes are confirmed and evolve toward a very pleasant minerality on the finish, creating a characteristic saline persistence. The length on the palate is appreciable, with a clean and mineral finish that lingers for several seconds.

    Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs ideally with seafood such as seared scallops, grilled or sauce-based fish, as well as delicate white meats. It also pairs perfectly with young or aged goat cheeses. Its freshness and minerality also make it an excellent aperitif wine.

    Serving and cellaring

The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc 2023 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 10 and 13°C. This wine can be appreciated now and will continue to evolve until around 2028.

The freshness and precision of a Burgundian Chardonnay

    The estate

Established in 2011, the Domaine Armand Heitz now covers around twenty hectares located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune. Armand Heitz, who holds a degree in oenology from the Changins School in Switzerland, took over the family estate in 2012 and rebranded it under his own name in 2019. The estate stands out for its innovative approach combining regenerative agriculture, permaculture, and mixed farming. Armand Heitz cultivates his vines according to principles that respect sap flows and practices minimally interventionist winemaking, favoring the authentic expression of each Burgundian terroir.

    The vineyard

This Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc comes from vineyards located at altitude, between 350 and 480 meters, on soils composed of limestone and marl from the Middle and Upper Jurassic periods. The parcels benefit from south, southeast, and southwest exposures, promoting balanced grape ripening. This altitude gives the wine its characteristic freshness and preserves the natural acidity of Chardonnay. The limestone and marl terroir is fully expressed in the wine’s pronounced minerality.

    Winemaking and aging

The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc 2023 is vinified using a non-interventionist approach. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts, without the addition of commercial cultures. Aging takes place over eight months in barrels, a duration sufficient to bring subtle complexity without masking the freshness of the fruit.
