The elegance of a great Tuscan terroir by Barone Ricasoli

    The estate
Located in the heart of Tuscany, the Barone Ricasoli estate has a fascinating history dating back to its founding in 1141. Now run by Francesco Ricasoli, the property covers a vast area of 1,200 hectares, 240 of which are planted with vines. As pioneers in defining Chianti Classico, the family has raised its name to the pinnacle of Italian winemaking. The estate stands out for its deep commitment to agronomic research and respect for biodiversity, thereby preserving an exceptional natural ecosystem.

    The vineyard
The vines used for this Chianti Classico cuvée flourish on hillsides at altitudes of 280 to 480 metres. Benefiting from sunny south, south-west and south-east-facing exposures, the vineyard is densely planted, with 5,500 to 6,600 vines per hectare. The vines are Guyot and cordon de Royat trained. This exceptional terroir rests on a mosaic of five distinct soil types, combining sandstone, schist and limestone with marine and river deposits rich in clay, sand and silt.

    The vintage
The year began with a typical winter, followed by a cool and particularly wet spring. Regular rainfall in May and June played a crucial role in replenishing the soils' water reserves. This stored water enabled the vines to withstand the summer heat without stress and complete their growing cycle in optimal conditions. In autumn, mild weather combined with wide temperature swings between day and night encouraged perfect ripening, ensuring a harvest of outstanding quality.

    Winemaking and ageing
The Brolio Riserva 2023 was harvested by hand from late September to early October. Each plot was vinified separately. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at rigorously controlled temperatures of 24 to 27°C, with skin maceration lasting 14 to 16 days. The wine was then aged for 18 months in 500-litre barrels, 30% of which were new French oak and 70% used wood. Finally, this Italian wine rested for six months in bottle before release.

    Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese.
