    Description

The balance and vivacity of a Tuscan red wine

    The estate

The Ricasoli family, which traces its origins back to the 7th century, is one of the oldest Italian families. Barone Ricasoli is the oldest wine estate in Italy, following the acquisition in 1141 of Château Brolio by the Ricasoli family. Aware of the significant potential of this estate, the Ricasoli family therefore undertook major work to restructure the vineyards and modernise viticultural practices, with the ambition of producing great wines from this Brolio terroir.

The wines from this Tuscan estate were then exported internationally and recognised for their quality, particularly in 1867 when Brolio wine won the first gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. After years of research and experimentation, Bettino Ricasoli created in 1872 the "formula" for the production of Chianti, now called Chianti Classico.

    The vineyard

Barone Ricasoli's Castello di Brolio Gran Selezione 2019 is a Tuscan wine from a 26-hectare vineyard placed between 400 and 490 metres above sea level in Chianti Classico. Its varied terroir and privileged geographical location, ranging from Alberese sandstone to Galestro limestone, allow the vines to flourish in a beneficial microclimate. These blessed soils give birth to wines of extraordinary tannic structure and aromatic richness.

    Winemaking and ageing

Fermentation and maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats (24-27°C) for 14 to 16 days. This Chianti Classico wine is aged for 23 months in barrels (30% new and 70% single-vineyard).
