Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Argentino 2023 by Bodega Catena Zapata

    Tasting Notes

    Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful garnet hue, enhanced by delicate violet highlights.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, blending black and red fruit aromas such as blackberry, blackcurrant, and plum with elegant floral notes of violet. These are complemented by touches of sweet spices, cocoa, blond tobacco, graphite, and a beautiful chalky minerality.

    Palate
The attack is full-bodied, revealing a particularly silky texture. The tannins are finely chiseled, accompanied by a superb freshness that carries the wine toward a long, brilliant finish.

    Food and Wine Pairings

This vintage will pair wonderfully with grilled, roasted, or braised red meats. It will also perfectly complement stewed dishes in sauce or a delicious roast duck.

    Serving and Aging

To fully enjoy the Argentino 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be cellared until approximately 2043.

A Great High-Altitude Malbec, Symbol of Mendoza's Excellence by Bodega Catena Zapata

    The Estate

Founded in 1902 by Nicola Catena, Bodega Catena Zapata is a true institution in Argentina. A pioneer in discovering high-altitude terroirs at the foot of the Andes, this family-owned estate has played a major role in the global revival of malbec. Today, the estate remains in the hands of its founding family, with Laura Catena, representing the fourth generation, now leading the property as CEO. The brand is renowned for its scientific approach and its iconic pyramid-shaped architecture.

    The Vineyard

The grapes used for this vintage come from historic high-altitude vineyards, notably Angélica and Nicasia, located in the prestigious Mendoza region. Planted between 950 and 1,095 meters above sea level, these vines benefit from a cool Andean climate and significant temperature variation. They thrive in clay-loam soils, promoting slow, optimal ripening of the berries while preserving great freshness and beautiful minerality.

    Winemaking and Aging

The creation of the Argentino 2023 begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration using whole clusters for two to ten days, allowing for a gentle extraction. Fermentation then takes place over 17 to 28 days with manual pump-overs, for a total maceration period of 25 to 38 days. Aging takes place over 10 to 18 months, combining the use of previously used French oak barrels, large 2,000-liter oak foudres, and 3,000-liter concrete tanks, allowing the tannic structure to be refined.

    Grape Variety

This wine is made exclusively from 100% Malbec.
