    Robert Parker Wine Advocate

    Anthony Mueller

The 2020 Galpin Peak Pinot Noir presents a bright profile with nuances of tea and a soft herbaceousness. Medium to full-bodied and possessing a 14% alcohol content, it features hints of oak and a firm tannic edge, suggesting that the wine would benefit from an additional year or more of aging in the bottle. This Pinot Noir is structured and stands to gain depth over time, making it a good candidate for pairing with food.

    James Suckling

Aromas of red cherry, sliced strawberry, chicory root and paprika. Medium-bodied with a silky texture and soft tannins. So much energy and life here, with very pretty red fruit standing at the center. Complex with a floral edge. Textural at the finish. Already so lovely, but will open up even more with time. Sustainable. Drink or hold.

    Description

A structured and balanced South African red wine

    The estate

Bouchard Finlayson has become an essential reference among fine South African wines. The famous Burgundy estate, Bouchard et Fils, partnered with the oenologist Peter Finlayson. Both working towards a common goal, the knowledgeable partners produce fine wines that express the nuances of the great South African terroirs.

Situated on the edge of the ocean in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, also called Paradise on Earth, the estate reigns over 25 hectares of vines that rest on clay slopes. This terroir and the climatic conditions are conducive to the two flagship grape varieties of Burgundy, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Unanimously recognised for the quality of its wines, the Bouchard Finlayson estate perfectly blends the identity of South Africa's terroirs with Burgundian know-how.

    The vineyard

Bouchard Finlayson's Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2020 is a Western Cape wine made from vineyards located in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, a valley renowned for its mosaic of soils.

    The vintage

While vegetative development and fruit set took place under optimal conditions, unstable weather conditions were then recorded. The harvest was carried out under dry weather conditions, which were ideal and helped to refine the ripeness levels of the grapes.

    Vinification and ageing

Fermentation with whole bunches (20%). Maceration for an average of 21 days before gentle pressing. Aged in French oak barrels for 11 months.

    The blend

    Pinot Noir (100%).
