    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Meursault Village Domaine 2019 Bouchard Père & Fils

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a bright pale golden hue, enhanced by delicate green highlights typical of its youth.

    Nose
Wonderfully intense, the bouquet reveals great complexity, blending fruity and floral aromas underpinned by a mineral backbone. On aeration, it gradually opens up to reveal new aromatic nuances.

    Palate
The palate offers a rich, generous texture, while retaining great finesse without heaviness or excessive oak. Carried by a lovely refreshing acidity, the palate unfolds flavours of almond and hazelnut wrapped in a fine minerality. The finish lingers on fruity and mineral notes.

    Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with delicate pan-fried fish, shellfish such as lobster or crayfish, as well as white meats and poultry served with a creamy sauce. It will also beautifully complement blue-veined cheeses such as Roquefort or delicious gougères.

    Service and storage

For optimal tasting, this wine should be served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. Ready to enjoy now, it also boasts fine ageing potential and can be cellared until around 2030.

    The estate

Founded in 1731 in France, the house of Bouchard Père & Fils is a true institution in Burgundy. Established at the heart of the famous Château de Beaune since 1820, the estate now oversees an exceptional 130-hectare vineyard. Recently acquired in 2022 by Artémis Domaines, it continues its quest for excellence under the direction of Emmanuel Dumont. Combining a unique historical heritage with sustainable winegrowing practices, the estate strives to capture the purest expression of Burgundy's great terroirs through wines of the highest calibre.

    The vineyard

Located within the prestigious Meursault appellation, the vineyard benefits from an ideal east-to-south exposure, at an altitude of around 260 metres. The vines flourish on complex soils composed of Jurassic marls and marly limestone, offering an ideal terroir for winegrowing. The estate is strongly committed to preserving biodiversity and practises environmentally responsible viticulture.

    The vintage

2019 was marked by contrasting weather conditions. Following a mild March that favoured early budburst, warmth set in during May. However, the beginning of June saw a cooling period and strong winds, leading to some millerandage. The summer that followed was particularly hot and dry. These conditions produced concentrated berries while preserving excellent natural acidity, ahead of a harvest that extended until mid-October.

    Winemaking and ageing

The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates and then carefully sorted. Pressing takes place in two gentle stages to extract the finest juices. Winemaking and ageing take place in French oak barrels for eight to ten months, followed by a further two to three months of refinement in stainless steel tanks. For this particular vintage, the wine was aged on the lees with no stirring at all, in order to preserve all its freshness.

    Grape variety

    Chardonnay (100%).
