Cask sample. Lightish cherry red. Open raspberry fruit, inviting. Gentle tannic grip, easy, delicious, fruit-centred but not flippant. Approachable soon. (JH)

    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Monthélie 1er Cru "Les Duresses" Domaine 2022 Bouchard Père & Fils

    Tasting notes

    Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue with brilliant highlights.

    Nose
The bouquet opens with aromas of fresh red fruits such as cherry and blackcurrant, nuanced by floral touches of peony. With aeration, it reveals a fine complexity with notes of undergrowth, fern, humus and sweet spices.

    Palate
The attack is generous and fruity, supported by tannins that are both firm and silky. With a round, delicate texture, the palate offers a medium body that extends into a long finish marked by minerality, truffle and spices.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine from France pairs perfectly with roast poultry, rack of lamb or rabbit. It also goes wonderfully with offal such as sweetbreads, mushroom dishes, as well as pressed cheeses such as reblochon or brie.

    Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Monthélie 1er Cru "Les Duresses" Domaine 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, after decanting for 30 to 45 minutes. It can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2027.

The authentic expression of a Monthélie Premier Cru by Bouchard Père & Fils

    The estate

Founded in 1731 in Beaune, the house of Bouchard Père & Fils is a historic institution of Burgundy. At the head of a vast 130-hectare vineyard, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment, crowned by organic farming certification. Now owned by Artémis Domaines, led by Frédéric Engerer, the house continues its legacy under the technical supervision of Frédéric Weber. It is also home to spectacular underground cellars within the Château de Beaune, preserving bottles dating back to the nineteenth century.

    The vineyard

Located within the Monthélie appellation, the Premier Cru Les Duresses climat rests on a complex terroir. The vines benefit from an eastern exposure and thrive at an altitude ranging between 230 and 370 metres. The soils are composed of whitish marl, clay and limestone, giving the grapes a distinctive minerality and fine structure.

    The vintage

The year 2022 benefited from very favourable weather conditions. After saving rains in June, the growing cycle unfolded under clement conditions, allowing the berries to develop thick skins and reach a fine balance between sugar and acidity ahead of the harvest, which began at the end of August.

    Winemaking and aging

The berries destined for the Monthélie 1er Cru "Les Duresses" Domaine 2022 are harvested and sorted by hand. After complete destemming, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks over 12 to 20 days, punctuated by manual punching down and daily pumping over. The wine is then aged for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, with new oak limited to 10% in order to preserve the identity of the terroir.
