The Estate
Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, a draper established in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s oldest wine houses. The estate now farms around 130 hectares of vines spread across the Côte d'Or, with a high proportion of Premiers Crus in Beaune. Since October 2022, the House has joined the world of François Pinault’s wines. The estate is moving toward increasingly environmentally respectful viticulture.
The Vineyard
Savigny-Les-Beaune is located five kilometers north of Beaune, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. The vineyard stretches across clay-limestone soils that give the wines their fruit-forward character and signature suppleness. This geological diversity enables Pinot Noir to express itself with elegance and finesse.
The Vintage
The 2020 vintage in Bourgogne was marked by an exceptionally mild winter followed by an early spring. Summer proved particularly hot and dry, with high temperatures and generous sunshine. Harvest began very early, at the end of August, three weeks ahead of the norm. Despite these extreme conditions, cool nights helped preserve the grapes’ freshness and acidity. Yields were reduced, but quality proved remarkable, with concentrated, aromatic wines.
Winemaking and Aging
Winemaking for the Savigny-Les-Beaune Village 2020 takes place in wooden vats with a twenty-day maceration. After fermentation and pressing, the wine is aged for ten months in French oak barrels, 30% new oak and 70% barrels that have held one wine or more. This partial barrel aging helps preserve fruit expression while bringing structure and complexity.
