    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Barbaresco 2023 Bruno Rocca

    Tasting

    Colour
This Italian red wine displays a pale, translucent ruby hue, slightly deeper due to this warm vintage, revealing characteristic orange nuances.

    Nose
Wonderfully expressive, the bouquet unveils floral aromas of rose and violet, intertwined with red fruit notes such as cherry, raspberry and cranberry, all underpinned by a mineral backbone free of any oaky influence.

    Palate
The attack reveals a flavourful, harmonious structure. The tannins, fine and polished by the terroir, integrate perfectly with a beautifully preserved acidity. The whole offers a supple, elegant and concentrated texture.

    Food and wine pairing

This vintage pairs beautifully with traditional dishes such as braised meats, mushroom or truffle risotto, and egg pasta served with a rich stew. For a more contemporary approach, it pairs wonderfully with tuna tartare with avocado, roasted poultry with seasonal fruits, or aged cheeses.

    Service and storage

This Barbaresco 2023 offers great appeal in its youth while possessing a solid structure for aging. It can be enjoyed now or left to rest in the cellar to reveal more complex notes, with a drinking window extending to around 2033.

The elegance and precision of a great Piedmont wine by Bruno Rocca

    The estate

Established in Piedmont, the family has worked the land since 1834, but it was in 1978 that the Bruno Rocca estate officially came into being with its own bottlings. With a vineyard spanning around fifteen hectares, this emblematic producer is now led by Bruno Rocca, supported by his children Francesco, who oversees winemaking, and Luisa, who heads up commercial direction. Renowned for its sustainable approach and organic certification obtained in 2016, the estate is dedicated to showcasing the true identity of its terroirs through a vision that blends tradition and modernity.

    The vineyard

Spread across the communes of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and San Rocco Seno d'Elvio, the vineyard plots rest on soils composed of stratified limestone, clay, calcareous marl and sand. Cultivation follows a philosophy respectful of the living soil, with no synthetic products used. The soils are nourished with natural compost and green manure, while cover cropping encourages biodiversity throughout the vines.

    The vintage

The year began with a mild winter followed by a particularly cool and rainy spring, leading to significant disease pressure. After a hailstorm in early July, summer proved very hot and dry, halting the spread of disease. The cooler nights of September and October then allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness.

    Winemaking and aging

Fermentation of this Barbaresco 2023 begins with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks over about twenty days. Malolactic fermentation then takes place in wooden vessels previously aged outdoors to limit aromatic impact. Aging continues for 18 months in French oak barrels, followed by a further 8 months resting in bottle.
