    Description

The depth and complexity of a Tuscan red wine

    The estate

Founded in 1968 following the merger of 5 estates, Castellare di Castellina is one of the finest references among Tuscan wines. Renowned for their quality, the estate's wines derive their uniqueness both from their exceptional terroir and from their label, whose bird represents the estate's deep respect for the surrounding nature.

    The vineyard

Located in the heart of the Chianti region, the vineyard stretches across 80 hectares near the small village of Castellina. Planted on the heights of a natural amphitheatre, this terroir, on clay-limestone soils, produces full-bodied, powerful Tuscan wines with great ageing potential.

    The vintage

A year of unstable weather, 2019 was marked by a spring with cool, wet conditions that delayed the growth development. The relatively hot summer preceded a month of September with a significant contrast between hot days and cool nights, ideal for refining the ripening process.

    Winemaking and ageing

The grapes, harvested by hand during the first week of October, were meticulously sorted. Alcoholic fermentation carried out in steel vats. Maceration for 20 days before racking and then malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for 30 months in barrels (2/3 of which are new). Bottling was followed by an additional 10 months of maturing before being released on the market.

    Blend

Sangiovese (85% - locally named Sangioveto)
    Malvasia Nera (15%).
