    Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for Castelmaure Grenache Noir 2023

    Tasting

    Nose
The nose is generous and expressive, unfolding aromas of blackcurrant, juicy blackberry and fresh redcurrant. Notes of sun-ripened crushed strawberry mingle with hints of wild-tinged licorice. Aging brings a subtle woody imprint, with delicate touches of cocoa and a discreet vanilla note.

    Palate
The palate is full-bodied yet retains remarkable airiness. Its silky, velvety texture glides across the palate with freshness rather than imposing itself. The finish lingers on a mineral, almost saline backbone, evoking warm stone and schist.

    Food and wine pairings
This Grenache Noir is an ideal match for herb-braised lamb with garrigue aromatics. It also pairs beautifully with roasted squab served with a full-bodied red wine jus, alongside spicy sweet potato purée.

    Serving and cellaring
Serve Castelmaure Grenache Noir 2023 between 16 and 18°C. Light chilling before opening is possible.

A Grenache Noir from schist terroirs

    The estate
Founded in 1921 in Embres-et-Castelmaure in Languedoc, the Castelmaure cooperative winery brings together sixty winegrowers farming 440 hectares. Under the oenological direction of Antoine Robert, this pioneering cooperative—known for applying carbonic maceration to Carignan—crafts five ranges that showcase Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Its model rewards quality over volume, ensuring authentic wines recognized internationally.

    The vineyard
This Vin de France comes from the estate’s finest hillsides, planted on a pure schist terroir. The vines are established at altitude, between 200 and 350 meters, on plots exposed to wind influence, which gives the wine its pronounced minerality.

    Winemaking and aging
The Grenache Noir 2023 grapes are carefully harvested, then destemmed. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks with regular pump-overs. At pressing, only the first juices—the purest and most vibrant—are kept for this cuvée. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in foudre.

    Grape variety
    100% Grenache Noir.
