According to the Roten family, owners of this illustrious 10-hectare estate, it is essential to understand the rhythm of the land to present wines with a formidable symphony of flavours. A symphony today carried on by Olivier Roten, who brilliantly magnifies his grandfather’s legacy.
The vineyard
True to the mountainous landscapes of Switzerland, the vineyards of the Valais are characterised by their steep terraces, with impressive and vertiginous slopes. The diversity of this remarkable environment and the climate that makes it up promise grapes of remarkable ripeness. Indeed, the Foehn, a warm wind from the Alps, plays a major role in the development of the grapes in the Valais vineyards.
Grape variety
Humagne Rouge (100%)
Despite its relatively recent appearance at the end of the 19th century, Humagne Rouge remains an emblematic grape variety of the Valais landscape. Although threatened with extinction in the 1960s, this black grape re-emerged in the Valais about thirty years ago under the direction of the region's winegrowers. The true potential of this indigenous grape variety is now being fully realised, with more than 130 hectares now under cultivation.
