Grosset has fashioned a non-vintage Grand Reserve Brut offering pleasant, yeasty bread notes intermixed with spicy pears, apple skins, and grapefruit. Medium-bodied, crisp, and impressively endowed, it should be consumed over the next 4–5 years. Importer: Palm Bay Imports, Boca Raton, FL; tel. (561) 362-9642. Reviewed by RMP

    Decanter

Gosset is the oldest house in Champagne and a favourite among wine trade insiders. This non-vintage cuvée is redolent with the aromas of mellow red apple fruit. It shows beautifully subtle autolysis on the palate, with creamy apple and plum flavours, and great precision at the same time.

Elegant, fine and supple mousse, with a medium body and creamy layers of fresh fruit and pastries. Medium straw color. Low-toned aromas of toffee, mocha, maple syrup and baking spices. Big, rich, dense and smooth; brighter and more harmonious than the Excellence Brut. Nicely delineated, slightly oily flavors of apple, nutmeg and toast. The firm acids are well integrated. Finishes ripe, youthful and impressively long.

Subtle notes of fresh almond pastry hover above the lemony nose that signals great freshness. The palate is bright and vivacious. Despite being exquisitely slender, and possessing the house’s signature steeliness, there is much depth and resonance to be found in the subtle autolysis and the gentle stone-fruit hints that play on the mid-palate and the long finish. A most elegant aperitif style.

With a base from 2018, the NV Champagne Grande Reserve Brut pours a bright straw hue and lifts from the glass with pure and inviting aromas of white peach, fresh flowers, and wet stone. Medium-bodied, with a fresh lift on the palate, a fresh pillowy mousse, and a delicate saline finish, this is a wonderful calling card for the freshness of the house style. Drink 2023-2030.

Gosset’s Grande Réserve Brut NV is a blend of 45% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, with 10% Pinot Meunier, aged a minimum of four years on lees and finished with an eight grams per liter dosage. Fragrant and assertive, the nose shows aromas of preserved lemon, red currant, elderflower, chalk, whipped butter, and honey. Medium-bodied, with vibrant, shimmering acidity and plush red-fruit concentration, the palate is elegant and balanced throughout, with pretty floral notes on the finish. 92

A beautiful colour, with an open nose offering a palette marked by Pinot varieties. The fruit is nicely ripe, with hints of stone kernel and mirabelle plum. The wine shows good substance with a tasty texture and creamy mousse. The juice is serious, with a dosage that smooths the edges without excess.

Earthy and truffley in an attractive and complex way, this fairly mature offering has a full mouthfeel and rich apple and plum flavors. The long finish brings tart plums. This has the stuffing to be used as a dining Champagne, and the reserved elegance required for drinking alone or with hors d'oeuvres.

    Description

A Gourmet and Generous Brut Champagne

    The Property

Inheriting a traditional know-how, the Champagne Gosset House perpetuates its style through the centuries. The Gosset family has been established in Aÿ, a Grand Cru of Champagne since the 16th century. For 16 generations, the Gosset House has perpetuated the excellence of which the guardian is today Odilon de Varine, cellar master and deputy general manager of the house. The champagnes of the house are recognizable notably by the shape of their bottle, a legacy of the "antique" flasks used in the 18th century.

    The Vineyard

The Gosset House owns plots on the Grands and Premiers Crus of Champagne from the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. The approximately 140 hectares of vineyards are planted on the crus of Cumières, Courmas, Chamery, Avenay, Vertus, Villers-Marmery, Grauves, Avize Trépail or Cuis.

    The Wine

Developed notably from the terroirs of Aÿ, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Villers-Marmery, the Gosset Grande Réserve cuvée is the signature of Gosset's "subtle and racey" identity.

    Vinification and Aging

Traditional vinification and aging on lees. No malolactic fermentation in order to preserve the naturally fruity aromas of the wines. The dosage is 8 g/liter and the aging is a minimum of 3 years in a cellar at a constant temperature. The disgorging is a minimum of 6 months.

    Blend

Chardonnay (45%), pinot noir (45%), pinot meunier (10%).
