Jacquesson : Dizy Corne Bautray 2012

The 2012 Extra-Brut Dizy Corne Bautray bristles with energy and tension. Long aging on the lees and bottling with no dosage result in an unusually stark, reticent 2012. There’s a ton of vibrancy, but all of that is bundled together, wrapped around a core of steely fruit that should start to emerge in another few years’ time. This potent, vinous Champagne just needs time to come together fully. I find the no dosage style a bit too severe in this bottling, although a few hours of aeration helps quite a bit. A finely buttered palette with a very precise nose, more lactic and milk caramel. This is a more masculine Chardonnay, with less minerality than the Côte des Blancs. The palate confirms this breadth and richness, but they are well controlled by quality tension.
