Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Comtes de Champagne Grands Crus Blanc de Blancs 2014 by Taittinger

Tasting

Color
The color reveals a crystalline, bright yellow hue, enhanced by delicate silvery highlights. The effervescence is characterized by fine, silky bubbles that rise with elegance.

Nose
The bouquet reveals remarkable complexity with chalky and mineral notes with iodized accents. Mixed in are pastry and brioche aromas evoking lemon meringue pie, accompanied by hazelnut and almond nuances. The nose is enriched with expressions of citrus, white flowers, white fruits, and aromatic herbs.

Palate
On the palate, the effervescence caresses the palate delicately while imparting dynamism. Freshness dominates with a noble bitterness that extends into a persistent saline finish.

Food and wine pairings

This champagne pairs perfectly with a scallop carpaccio, blue lobster or salmon roe. It also elegantly accompanies a sole meunière with julienne vegetables or a Brillat-Savarin cheese garnished with apples or spiced roasted pears.

Serving and cellaring

The pure and mineral expression of a great Champagne from the Côte des Blancs

The estate

Founded in 1932 by Pierre Taittinger upon the acquisition of the Château de la Marquetterie, the House Taittinger ranks among the last great independent family-owned Champagne houses. Driven by Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and his two children, Clovis and Vitalie, the House Taittinger has managed to maintain a family spirit by producing champagnes resolutely focused on a chardonnay style. Since January 1, 2020, Vitalie Taittinger has been President of the Taittinger Champagne House.

The vineyard

The vineyard of the Taittinger Champagne House spans 288 hectares of vines and comprises 37 different crus. Taittinger is thus the third largest vineyard in Champagne. The entire vineyard is certified High Environmental Value.

The cuvée

This prestigious cuvée comes exclusively from the finest terroirs of the Côte des Blancs. The grapes are harvested in the Grand Cru villages of Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, Oger, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, exceptional terroirs recognized for their ability to reveal the full nobility of chardonnay. The dosage between 8 and 9 g/L gives this Blanc de Blancs Champagne a balanced profile between freshness and roundness.

Winemaking and aging

The winemaking of Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2014 follows traditional Champagne methods. A proportion of 6 to 8% of the wines benefits from barrel aging for 4 to 6 months, providing complexity and depth. Aging then continues for 10 years in the cellar, allowing the Champagne to develop its unique personality.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
