A lively, well-balanced Burgundy Premier Cru

    The estate

Founded in Beaune in 1720 by Edme Champy, a cooper, Champy is regarded as Burgundy’s oldest négociant-éleveur house. Since 2016, it has been part of the AdVini group and farms 21 hectares across the Côte de Beaune, from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. Committed to more sustainable viticulture, it now has 50% of its vineyard area certified organic and 50% certified Haute Valeur Environnementale. Awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label in 2021, Champy combines tradition and modernity, and remains the only production site still active within the old town of Beaune.

    The vineyard

The Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru « Ile des Vergelesses » comes from parcels located in the commune of Pernand-Vergelesses, at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune. Very hilly, the vineyard stretches between 250 and 350 meters in altitude. The vines draw from clay-limestone marls, which give the wine its structure and its mineral signature.

    Winemaking and aging

The Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru « Ile des Vergelesses » grapes were harvested by hand. A cold pre-fermentation maceration was carried out before spontaneous alcoholic fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Maceration lasted around three weeks. Aging then continued for 14 months in eight barrels, with 25% new oak.
