    Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Corton Grand cru "Maréchaudes" 2019 from Chandon de Briailles

    Tasting

    Color

The color displays a deep ruby-red hue with garnet highlights.

    Nose

The bouquet reveals fine aromatic complexity, with floral notes of peony alongside aromas of ripe plum. Mineral nuances reminiscent of earth add depth to the whole, while subtle spicy and woody touches bring further dimension.

    Palate

The attack is elegant and taut. A silky texture envelops the palate with finesse, carried by refined tannins and beautiful minerality. The fruit expresses itself with freshness and concentration, offering a remarkable balance between richness and vibrancy through to a persistent finish.

    Food and wine pairings

This Corton Grand cru "Maréchaudes" 2019 pairs perfectly with fine red meats such as beef fillet en croûte or a roasted rack of lamb. It also matches elegantly with delicate poultry dishes cooked with mushrooms, as well as carefully prepared feathered game birds. Aged soft-ripened cheeses also make an excellent pairing.

    Serving and cellaring

It is recommended to serve this Corton Grand cru "Maréchaudes" 2019 at a temperature between 15 and 17°C. One hour of aeration in a decanter will allow the wine to fully express its aromatic complexity. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favorably until around 2034.

An elegant, mineral Corton Grand Cru from biodynamic farming

    The estate

Founded in 1834, Domaine Chandon de Briailles is a family estate in Burgundy, located in Savigny-lès-Beaune in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. Its 13.7-hectare vineyard also extends over Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton, with prestigious crus such as Corton Bressandes. The Comte and Comtesse Aymard-Claude de Nicolay, together with their children, have managed the estate since 2001 and are still its current owners. The estate converted to biodynamic farming as early as 2005, obtained Demeter certification in 2011, and has practiced horse-drawn cultivation since 2011.

    The vineyard

The Climat Les Maréchaudes lies on the lower part of the hill of Corton, benefiting from a generous east/southeast exposure. Its name evokes the warmth that characterizes this area. The rich clay-limestone soils give the wine beautiful minerality and an elegant structure. This prime location on the Corton hillside allows optimal ripening of Pinot Noir, encouraging the expression of a wine that is both concentrated and fresh.

    The vintage

The year 2019 stands out as a sunny vintage in Burgundy. Favorable weather conditions made it possible to obtain perfectly ripe grapes. Generous sunshine throughout the season encouraged concentration in the berries, while cool nights preserved the grapes’ natural freshness. These ideal conditions produced wines that are rich and concentrated while retaining vibrant energy.

    Winemaking and aging

True to its low-intervention philosophy, the estate favors traditional methods to craft the Corton Grand cru "Maréchaudes" 2019. The harvest is carried out by hand with rigorous sorting. Vinification often uses whole clusters, allowing for gentle extraction that respects the fruit. Aging takes place over a long period in oak barrels, with very limited use of new wood so as not to mask the expression of the terroir and to preserve the wine’s aromatic purity.
