Deep, sweet, cherry and tobacco leaf, good freshness, with a balance between tannins and acidity. Heritiers Ballande.

Medium deep ruby red colour. Pure nose offering discreet wood, wild berries, cassis, sage, bay leaf and tobacco. Classic medium body, ripe tannin, balanced in an elegant profile with fine length.

This shows notes of currants and black cherries with hints of walnut, dark spices and wet earth. Medium- to full-bodied, slightly chewy and chalky on the palate with firm tannins and vivid acidity. Juicy finish. Try after 2024.

    Description

A red wine from Pessac-Léognan, unveiled by Château Baret

    The estate

Located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Baret boasts ancient origins. The foundations of the estate date back to the 4th century. For several generations, Château Baret belonged to the Lords of Baret. In 1867, the Ballande family of merchants and shipowners acquired the estate. Over the past twenty years, Château Baret has undergone major renovations and restructuring, both in the vineyard and in the winery. From vintage to vintage, following the arrival of a new team in 2015, this historic estate has stood out as one of the most beautiful references of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

    The vineyard

The Château Baret vineyard is located in the town of Villenave d'Ornon, east of Bordeaux and covers 25.80 hectares of vines. The vines, aged for 25 years on average, are planted on Garonne gravel and clay-limestone subsoils. 21.70 hectares are dedicated to red wines, while 4.10 hectares are dedicated to white grape varieties.

    The winemaking

Fermentation and maceration at 28°C for 3 weeks. Ageing lasts for 12 months in barrels, of which 20% are new.

    Blend

Château Baret 2020 is made of a blend of Merlot (75%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%).
