    Wine Spectator

    James Molesworth

Juicy, with a mix of red and black cherry compote flavors that pick up anise and savory details through the finish. Drink now through 2022. 20,000 cases made, 5,000 cases imported.

    Decanter

The Médoc signature of cassis, menthol and mint has really settled in over ageing, and this is an enjoyable Citran, with a slightly rustic finish.

    James Suckling

Blackcurrant, chocolate, dried mint and licorice on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tightly knit tannins. Sleek and fresh. Better from 2024.

    Jeff Leve

    Leve Jeff

A Cabernet Sauvignon–dominated wine, medium-bodied, earthy, straightforward and direct, with red currant, cedar, tobacco, and herb notes. The wine has filled out a bit since it was in barrel. Drink from 2022–2036.

    Falstaff

    Falstaff

Deep dark ruby, purple reflections, delicate bright rim. Attractive nose of fresh figs and chocolate, a hint of cardamom, candied orange zest. Juicy, delicate wood savouriness, juicy cherry fruit, integrated tannins, mineral, easy to drink, with potential.

    André Kunz

Silky, creamy, sweet, finely green, fruity bouquet with cherries, chalk, tobacco, nougat. Slim, firm palate with fine-grained tannins, light aromatics, light structure, and a bitter finish. 16/20 drink - 2032

    Jean-Marc Quarin

Dark, intense colour. Moderately aromatic, fruity nose. Easy, fruity palate, lacking density. A little short.

    Wine Enthusiast

    Roger Voss

This textured, fruity wine is given a firm edge by the tannins. The structure provides an important element in the wine's potential, balancing attractive black-currant flavors with a dry core. The wine should age, so drink from 2025.

    Description

A Gourmet and Structured red Grand Vin from Haut-Médoc

Powerful, gourmet and structured, the Château Citran 2018 offers the experience of a red Grand Vin of Haut-Médoc in what was a beautiful vintage for Bordeaux.

Located on the left bank of Bordeaux, in the Haut-Médoc appellation, Château Citran looks over a vineyard of 100 hectares, planted on gravelly-sandy soil upon asteroid limestones and clay-limestone soils.

For this 2018 vintage, the harvest began on September 19 with the Merlot and ended on October 12 with the Cabernet Sauvignon. Guided by the advice of talented oenologist Éric Boissenot, the Château Citran 2018 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (39%), Merlot (50%) and Cabernet Franc (11%).

At the tasting, the Château Citran 2018 presents a limpid colour, with brilliant violet reflections. Intense and complex, the nose opens with notes of red and black berries, bearing the unique imprint of each grape variety in the blend. On the palate, the wine unfolds a generous and juicy material, with a beautiful structure. The harmonious palate stretches into a long, persistent finish.
