Château Closiot : C de Sec 2022

The 2022 C de Sec du Château Closiot has a light, slightly malic bouquet, apple blossom and wet pavement scents that give it a Burgundian personality. The palate is quite reductive on the entry, too much for my liking, and it obscures the terroir expression and delineation on the finish. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

The 2022 Le C du Sec du Château Closiot is another excellent white wine from Jean-Marie Guffens. Evoking an elegant, complex, and fresh bouquet of ripe pear, exotic fruits, nutmeg, vanilla pod, and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, round and enveloping, with a layered structure and a juicy core of fruit, finishing with a sweet note and a touch of volatile acidity. While it may not be as exuberant as the 2023 vintage, and certainly not as much as its owner and winemaker, it remains a great effort.

Diam 10 closure. Made by Jean-Marie Guffens. Tasted blind. Struck-match aroma. Then quite rich – distinctive. Love or loathe. I rather like it! Long. Though some may find it a little sickly on the end. (JR)
