Château Couhins-Lurton 2021

Interesting aromatics of citrus blossoms; particularly lively in style, with pronounced, supporting acidity and a long, mineral-driven, racy finish; benefits from some ageing after bottling.

A brilliant white in 2021 – this offers a zesty tang that hits straight away on the palate, juicy, alive, sharp in the best way with such brightness filling the mouth. Concentrated flavours of citrus fruit, lemongrass, peach and vanilla have pure energy, giving the life force that drives this forward. Such precision, clarity and detail with a crystalline nature.

This is a creamy and flavorful white showing aromas of lemon curd, nutmeg, dried apples, hazelnuts and chamomile. Some mango. It’s medium- to full-bodied with excellent concentration for the vintage. Long and delicious. Drink now or hold.

Tasted blind. Nicely married aroma. Substantial beginning, middle and end to this confident wine. Fruit in the middle, some structure and excellent acidity. Hint of struck match. (JR)

Pomelo, lemon, lime, green apples and hints of spice are all over the place here. Ripe, fresh, sweet, crisp and creamy, this is already just great to enjoy. Drink from 2023-2032. 93-93

Medium yellow, green hints, silver reflections. Elegant and inviting aromas of ripe yellow tropical fruit, a hint of new wood, nuances of mango and orange. Juicy and elegant with good freshness, a finesse-rich texture, salty-mineral notes and a lasting finish. Showing some development, with definite further ageing potential.

This is great in bottle as it was En Primeur, capturing the grip and sense of momentum that the best whites have in this vintage. Sculpted citrus and lime zest, a touch of sage and saffron, measured and juicy on the finish. One to watch. Valerie Lavigne consultant winemaking, Jacques Lurton owner. Harvest September 9 to 27. The red is impressive in the vintage as well, a success in both colours.

The white 2021 Couhins-Lurton shows notes of lemons, grapefruit, and chalk dust on the nose, with hints of lime leaves and white pepper. Medium-bodied, the palate is crisp and pure, with zippy flavors and a zesty finish.

A pure, lively nose with notes of aromatic herbs. On the palate, a mineral tension with lovely notes of lemon cream.

What brilliance and detail in the 2021 bouquet! Inviting notes of chamomile flowers, holly, and white flowers. In line with the bouquet, the attack stands out for its variety, with flavor nuances ideally supported by the acidic structure. The wine is harmonious, saline, mouthwatering, and nevertheless ample. A fine success!

Château Couhins-Lurton makes the most of a challenging harvest for whites (60% loss). Yellow grapefruit, lemon and candied fruit come together in this very low-yield vintage. This 100% Sauvignon plays its score with great finesse, driven by vibrant tension and minerality.

From a gravel soil vineyard on this Lurton estate, this wine has a fine minerality along with citrus freshness. Wood aged, this fine wine is toasty and still young. Drink from 2025.
