Description
An expressive and structured wine from Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
The estate
Located in the Bordeaux region, Château d'Aiguilhe has origins dating back to the Middle Ages, though its vineyard was truly established in 1920 by Étienne Martineau. Acquired in 1989 by Count Stephan von Neipperg, its current owner and managing director, this emblematic estate stands out for its commitment to sustainable, certified organic viticulture. Today, the estate is renowned for producing wines of character that express all the richness of its exceptional terroir.
The vineyard
Planted within the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, in Saint-Philippe-d'Aiguille, the vineyard reaches an altitude of 110 metres on clay-limestone soils. Benefitting from an ideal southern exposure and excellent natural drainage, the vines, averaging 28 years of age, are cultivated using a biodynamic and certified organic approach, excluding all pesticides and herbicides.
Winemaking and aging
Fermentation takes place in wooden and concrete vats, with pneumatic pigeage for optimal extraction. After a 26-day maceration, 75% of the wine is aged in barrels (including 20% new oak) on fine lees, while the remaining 25% matures in wooden and concrete vats.
Grape varieties
This Château d'Aiguilhe 2025 is the result of a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
