Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for the Mercurey Village "Clos de la Maladière" 2020 from Château de Chamirey
Tasting
Appearance
With its deep garnet-red hue and bright highlights, this wine reflects fine concentration and well-controlled extraction.
Nose
The bouquet reveals fine aromatic complexity, with notes of ripe dark fruits—especially blackcurrant and blueberry—enhanced by hints of currants. Spicy touches of white pepper and nutmeg add depth. Minerality comes through in aromas of undergrowth, mushroom and graphite. Aging brings subtle notes of vanilla and licorice, perfectly integrated.
Palate
The attack is broad and generous, immediately unveiling a vibrant core of fruit. The tannic structure—serious and well-defined—stands out for its silky texture and finesse. The balance between natural acidity and extract concentration delivers a lasting sensation of freshness. The mineral, saline finish lingers elegantly, offering remarkable length for a village wine.

The Mercurey Village "Clos de la Maladière" 2020 pairs perfectly with a Burgundian fondue or duck breast. It also matches beautifully with roasted or grilled red meats, dishes in sauce such as a game stew, as well as recipes featuring wild forest mushrooms. A lively and beautifully elegant Mercurey from the Côte Chalonnaise
The estate
Established in 1932 in Mercurey, in the Côte Chalonnaise (Burgundy), Château de Chamirey is now the largest estate in the appellation, with 37 hectares including 15 ha of premiers crus spread across 6 climats, including two monopoles: Premier Cru Les Ruelles (red) and La Mission (white). Owned by the Devillard family, it is run by Amaury and Aurore Devillard.
The vineyard
Clos de la Maladière is made up of three distinct plots totaling 1.36 hectares, planted between 1959 and 1979. Located in Mercurey, they benefit from a north-south exposure on a gentle slope. The clay-limestone soil, predominantly clay and enriched with small pebbles, promotes optimal drainage and gives the wine its characteristic minerality along with fine freshness on the finish.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Mercurey Village "Clos de la Maladière" 2020 are harvested by hand and then fully destemmed.
