    Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Marsannay Village 2024 from Château de Marsannay

    Tasting

    Appearance
This wine reveals a deep ruby or cherry hue, appearing slightly lighter than usual due to gentle extraction.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet releases fragrances of fresh red fruits such as raspberry and cherry, complemented by notes of juicy plum and soft spices. A beautiful mineral backbone enhances the whole.

    Palate
The attack is generous, leading into a supple and perfectly balanced palate. The structure, both delicate and assertive, is supported by fine, silky tannins.

    Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats such as rib steak, as well as fine charcuterie. It also complements freshwater fish in sauce, Mediterranean- or Asian-inspired spiced dishes, and aged cow’s milk cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 59 and 63 °F, taking care to aerate or lightly decant it half an hour before serving. It will reveal its full potential within 5 to 7 years and can be cellared until around 2034.

The finesse and concentration of a great Marsannay red wine

    The estate
Founded in 1990 by the Boisseaux family, the Château de Marsannay is ideally located at the gates of Dijon, marking the entrance to the famous Grands Crus route of Bourgogne. Since its acquisition in 2012, the current owner, Olivier Halley, has instilled a dynamic of modernization and environmental excellence. The estate, which spans 40 hectares of vineyards, is now certified organic. Renowned for its meticulous parcel-based approach, it stands as a benchmark, passionately showcasing the finest terroirs of its appellation and the Côte de Nuits.

    The vineyard
The vineyard thrives on south- and southeast-facing slopes, at altitudes ranging from 255 to 390 meters. The vines rest on a complex geological mosaic combining limestone marl, clay, and gravel. Committed to a strong agroecological approach, the estate prioritizes horse plowing, the use of organic composts, and plant-based preparations, thereby preserving the biodiversity and vitality of this exceptional terroir of Marsannay.

    The vintage
The year 2024 proved particularly challenging from a climatic standpoint. Exceptional humidity, marked by record rainfall and a continuously wet June, led to high fungal disease pressure. Spring was also punctuated by episodes of frost and hail. These conditions disrupted flowering, causing coulure and millerandage. While yields were drastically reduced, these airy grape clusters paradoxically helped maintain optimal health and concentrate the aromas of the surviving berries.

    Winemaking and aging
After extremely rigorous sorting of the harvest to retain only the healthiest berries, winemaking follows a tailored approach. Vatting lasts two to three weeks, favoring gentle extraction methods such as infusion and light pump-overs. A rapid devatting is then carried out as soon as the desired aromatic balance is achieved, ensuring the wine’s finesse.
