A Red Marsannay Defined by Freshness and Finesse
The Estate
The Château de Marsannay, a building constructed in 1990 on the Route des Grands Crus in Marsannay-la-Côte in Burgundy, has belonged since 2012 to the Halley family, who also own Château de Meursault. The estate now cultivates 40 hectares of vines, all farmed organically, spread between the Marsannay appellation and prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. Château de Marsannay has established itself as a major player in enhancing the reputation of the Marsannay appellation, pursuing an advanced agroecological approach in partnership with agronomic research.
The Vineyard
The Es Chezots climat, planted exclusively with Pinot Noir, covers 2 hectares within the Marsannay appellation. Located mid-slope with an easterly exposure, this terroir sits at the confluence of two combes, which bring a flow of cool air that promotes slow ripening of the grapes. The soils, clay-silt-sand in composition, result from the weathering of Ostrea acuminata marls, giving the terroir moderate water retention and a distinctive mineral richness. The vineyard is farmed organically, with careful attention paid to soil conservation.
Vinification and Maturation
For the Marsannay Village "Es Chezots" 2025, the harvest is carried out by hand, with sorting on a sorting table. The grapes are partially destemmed before being placed in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for a cold maceration. Gentle punching down and pumping over accompany the fermentation, in a spirit of soft extraction that respects the fruit. Maturation takes place in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, for thirteen months, followed by three months in tank before bottling.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
