Characteristics and Tasting Advice for Château Gruaud Larose 1995

    Tasting

    Color
The color shows an evolved hue, reflecting the wine’s maturity.

    Nose
The bouquet reveals fine aromatic complexity, with notes of raspberry, redcurrant, smoky nuances and tobacco.

    Palate
A smooth, precise attack leads into a fruity palate with subtle spice. The finish charms with its minerality.

    Food and Wine Pairings

This wine pairs beautifully with fine cuts such as a herb-roasted rack of lamb, tournedos Rossini or duck breast. It also elegantly complements game dishes such as lièvre à la royale, as well as noble mushrooms like a porcini gratin. Mature cheeses, notably Comté or truffle Brie, enhance its complex aromas.

    Serving and Cellaring

Château Gruaud Larose 1995 is best served at a temperature of 17 to 18°C. Gentle decanting for one to two hours before serving allows its full aromatic range to be expressed.

A Saint-Julien wine built for long aging

    The Estate

Founded in the 18th century by Abbé Joseph Stanislas Gruaud, Château Gruaud Larose is an emblematic estate in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in Bordeaux, classified as a Second Growth in 1855. Owned by the Merlaut family since 1997, under the direction of Jean Merlaut, the vineyard embodies Bordeaux excellence, and its historic motto « the king of wines, the wine of kings » reflects its centuries-old prestige.

    The Vineyard

The vineyard of Château Gruaud Larose spans the médoc gravels of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, an outstanding terroir on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Composed of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot and malbec, the traditional varietal mix allows the production of wines made for long aging, expressing all the typicity of the Saint-Julien appellation.

    The Vintage

The year 1995 benefited from exceptional weather conditions. A hot, dry summer was followed by optimal conditions as harvest approached, allowing the grapes to reach exemplary ripeness and health. This vintage ranks among the estate’s most highly regarded.

    Winemaking and Aging

Château Gruaud Larose 1995 was produced using the estate’s traditional methods, favoring the expression of the terroir and aging potential. Malolactic fermentation: 40% in barrels. Aging for 16-18 months in barrels enabled the wine to develop aromatic complexity while preserving the finesse of its tannic structure.

    Grape Varieties

Cabernet sauvignon (64%), merlot (26%), cabernet franc (7%), petit verdot (3%).
