Château Haut-Batailley : Verso 2019

Sports a noticeable savory streak from the start, along with brisk cassis and damson plum notes and a subtle infusion of tobacco leaf. Shows a good twinge of iron through the finish. On the austere side but in proportion, this is for fans of the style. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2032.

Dark and milk chocolate aromas around sweet, fragrant black fruits. Plush tannins, soft but with good texture. Cooling blue fruits on the palate, coffee bean freshness giving a spicy touch. Nice combination that really works here. It's got a lot going on and is not on the fruit nor spicy side, just all melded together with an undercurrent of acidity that gives it life.

The 2019 Verso de Haut-Batailley is a charming, easygoing second wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Bright red cherry, plum, lavender, spice and tobacco open nicely with a bit of coaxing.

Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. A hint of nougat, black cherries, fine blackberry confit, candied orange zest. Elegant, balanced, pleasant berry fruit, integrated tannins, mineral and fresh on the finish, already accessible, a multi-faceted food companion.

A classic style with youthful fruit, red berries, plum, some herbal notes and mild oak. Medium weight with a slight firmness, youthful tannin and rather good length.

The 2019 Château Haut-Batailley Verso is incredibly floral and perfumed, with beautiful red and blue fruits as well as lead pencil, tobacco, and sappy herb nuances. A medium-bodied, elegant second wine, it has the tannins, mid-palate, and overall balance to drink well for two decades if properly stored.

Clear Pauillac signature, showing delicious Cabernet Sauvignon character, dark fruits, grilled notes but with less evident oak influence, probably thanks to greater fruit density, crayon and blueberry, enjoyable; this is a great second wine that is limbering up to be ready to drink. Yield 47 hl/ha. No new oak.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, the 2019 Verso is deep garnet-purple in color. It is a little closed to start, opening out to notes of black raspberries, mulberries, and cassis, plus wafts of potpourri, tree bark, and Sichuan pepper. The medium-bodied palate is tightly wound, with lovely tension and a mineral-laced finish.

A lovely floral nose with a fresh, smooth palate. A very good second wine, truly charming.

Dark, intense, and beautiful color. A moderately aromatic nose with ripe, subtle fruit. Juicy on the attack and through the mid-palate, very flavorful; the wine stretches out on the finish, long and without any tannic edges.

The wine revels in fruit. With a fine, stylish character, the second wine of this estate is juicy and full of black currant flavors. It will age well over the medium term, drink from 2025.
